In an age where social media usage is majorly on the rise, it is not news that social media platforms are expanding their offerings to have an impact on important areas like fundraising. Facebook fundraisers for nonprofit organizations have been increasingly popular and successful lately, and now Instagram is following closely behind.
At the very beginning of May, Instagram added a new feature that allows eligible nonprofits and their supporters to hold a virtual fundraiser on their stories for an organization of their choice. Besides being a simple and convenient way to raise money for various causes, this new feature is great because Instagram covers 100% of credit card/processing fees for registered 501(c)3 organizations that are approved by Facebook.
You can use the donation sticker through these easy steps:
- Open the camera in Instagram
- Upload a photo
- Tap the sticker icon from the top right selection bar
- Select the donation sticker from the tray
From there, you can choose a nonprofit and even customize the color of your sticker. Once you post to your story with your new donation sticker, your followers can easily donate to your cause. You can even swipe up on your story to find out how much you’ve raised. Of course, the full amount of what you see there will go directly to the nonprofit that you chose.
This is an amazing feature. In order for your nonprofit to be able to receive donations via the new donation sticker, your nonprofit’s Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook account, you must sign up for Charitable Giving Tools on Facebook, and your Instagram account must be switched over to a Business Profile, if it has not already. Fortunately, these steps are simple and you’ll be on your way to raising money in no time.
If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to utilize this impactful new feature. Summer provides plenty of fun photo opportunities, such as events, to go along with the donation sticker. This combination can create a great new Instagram story that is sure to gain some attention and of course, receive donations for your cause.
