Global Philanthropy

Faircom New York is a full-service nonprofit fundraising and communications agency. Established nearly 30 years ago, our team of passionate, humanitarian fundraising professionals works with partners to raise funds at every donor level and through every channel of giving.

About the Position

We are looking for an energetic, motivated new member of our Philanthropy team. This department focuses on creating and implementing strategies to build support from high net worth individuals, corporations, and foundations, including strategic counsel and support for donor relationship building, events production, and communications development.

The Research and Communications Associate is a critical player on that team, helping to develop the supporting information and intelligence that makes fundraising successful. Research is fundamental to our partners’ successes, and it includes diving into the nonprofit sector and peer organizations to understand the competitive landscape, as well as identifying the strongest prospects for fundraising. We typically create all of the communications materials used throughout our fundraising strategies, which means you will be defining the identity of our partners for some of their most critical supporters.

This unique opportunity allows you to collaborate with incredible nonprofit organizations from the US and around the world. Some of our partners’ missions include building surgical capacity in developing countries, promoting indigenous-led community development, exploring the mysteries of fundamental mathematics, and expanding our knowledge of ancient Egypt. Beyond the diversity of partner missions, every strategy we build is specifically tailored to the needs of each organization. That means that each day brings something new to learn and new activities to sink your teeth into.

In joining this team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from an experienced and international team, including FNY founder and president Corinne Servily, recognized as one of the world’s top fundraising consultants. We are eager to share our experiences and help you grow as part of the team – and we ultimately aim for this to be a fruitful, rewarding, and long-lasting experience for you at Faircom New York.

FNY offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including summer Fridays, a sizeable vacation policy, flexible work hours, and a very warm office environment. If you have a positive attitude, innovative ideas, and a roll-up-your-sleeves mentally, we hope to hear from you!

What You Need to be Successful:

Agency work is exciting and fast-paced. You should be comfortable multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities, and you will excel if you bring flexibility, self-direction, and organizational skills to your work.

You should also be curious and eager to learn! Building thoughtful strategies for our partners means really getting to know them, their programs, and their impact – because we often have to channel their voices and stories into the communications we develop.

The work of philanthropy is also about empathy, engagement, and openness. You should hope to work in a field that contributes to our communities in a positive way. And, you should be comfortable working with people from various backgrounds, especially in a cross-cultural context.

Finally, this position is intimately tied into the truism that successful fundraising depends on getting the right message to the right person at the right time. With well-honed writing skills, you will be instrumental to shaping the messages that go out to donors and prospects, and your comfort with research will be essential to helping find the best targets for particular fundraising tactics.

Your Day-to-Day May Include:

  • Close collaboration with all members of the Philanthropy team to implement fundraising and communications strategies for a range of domestic and international clients.
  • Client, competitor, and broader market research to inform strategy development.
  • Prospect research for donors and other strategic partners, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Drafting, editing, and formatting documents, presentations, website copy, brochures, and other communications materials.
  • Assisting with special events production leading up to and during the event, as well as post-event follow-up, including acknowledgments.
  • Providing regular project reports to your supervisor and team.
  • Delivering administrative support to the Philanthropy team, including assistance with meeting and presentation arrangements.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements/Skills:

  • 2-3 years of professional experience; fundraising, marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with nonprofits is essential, while agency, fundraising, and communications experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in English required; second language skills are a plus (French preferred).
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with an independent, resourceful approach to work.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills, including editing skills.
  • Strong competency in research and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a “can-do” approach to diverse software and technology.
  • Positive and professional attitude, including comfort working with a broad range of clients and team members.
  • Flexibility under competing time requirements and changing deadlines, as well as an ability to assess and set priorities.
